Pacific Transit will launch extensive route changes on Monday, April 20, 2026. These improvements include a new transit center, expanded hours, and three new routes. The newly upgraded fixed-route system is designed to increase reliability, improve ease of navigation, and cater to the specific needs of locals and visitors with optimized routes for each. Key highlights of these new routes include increased service in high-traffic areas through the summer, improved north-to-south county mobility, and smoother regional connections. Our fixed-route services will remain fare-free for all riders.

NEW Long Beach Transit Center

This season’s biggest change is the development of the NEW Long Beach Transit Center, which will support the significant improvements in Pacific’s fixed-route system. Located at 5th St. and Oregon Ave, the new Transit Center will serve as a starting and ending point for the Brown (Ocean Park/Oysterville), Red (Ilwaco/Ocean Park, Tan (Long Beach) and Blue (Astoria), routes, as well as a connection point for our Purple (South Bend/Long Beach) Route. Having a permanent, public transit center allows Pacific Transit to improve connections between routes, increase service frequency, and create easier transfers for passengers traveling across the peninsula and between communities.

The site has been approved by the City of Long Beach and is expected to accommodate 3 to 4 cutaway vehicles, include an ADA-accessible pad and shelter, and serve as a hub for connections to routes serving Astoria and Raymond/South Bend. Construction is underway and expected to be completed around the time Pacific’s spring route changes take effect.

Changes by Route

Blue Route

Blue Route will begin and end at the new Long Beach Transit Center. Service to the Port of Ilwaco will be discontinued on the Blue line but will be picked up by another route. Blue will offer hourly service between Long Beach and Astoria, as well as continued service to Chinook.
This change helps create a more reliable regional connection for riders traveling between Washington and Oregon.

Weekday:

Weekend:

Brown Route

Minor changes to the Brown Route include removal of the Port of Ilwaco stop (to be picked up by other routes), shorter run times, increased frequency, and more consistent connections at the transit center.

Weekday:

Weekend:

NEW Red Route

The new Red Route fills the service gap left by other routes while creating high-frequency coverage across the peninsula. This line will connect the Port of Ilwaco to the Long Beach Transit Center and continue north to Jack’s Country Store in Ocean Park.

Weekday:

Weekend:

NEW “Tan Line”

Pacific Transit’s new Tan Line connects riders to multiple beach access points and nearby areas along the Longest Beach in the World with fixed routes at 15-minute frequencies. This route provides convenient access to local amenities and businesses for both locals and visitors alike, improving mobility along the beach corridor and allowing riders to enjoy the coast without needing a car.

Purple Route

The Purple Route will continue to serve as a main connection between South Bend, Raymond, and Long Beach, with direct connections to the Brown, Blue, Red, and Tan Lines at the Long Beach Transit Center. Because travel time between South Bend and Long Beach is one hour, this route will operate every two hours. However, streamlined connections will significantly improve north-to-south county mobility.

Note: To improve reliability and travel time for through riders, Naselle and Bay Center will transition from regular stops to call-ahead request stops. Riders who need service to these locations can request the stop in advance, and the bus will deviate to serve them when scheduled. This approach allows the route to remain efficient while still providing access to these communities.

Weekday:

Weekend:

Green Route

This primary regional connection between Raymond and Aberdeen will remain largely unchanged.

Weekday:

Weekend:

Yellow Route

Same path, improved reliability! Pacific’s Yellow Line will retain the same route but run time will be reduced to 50 minutes with more efficient scheduling. This opportunity for optimization was identified through the analysis of ridership and timing data from previous route changes and operations.

Weekday:

Weekend:

NEW Orange Route

A reimagined version of the beloved former “Shopper Shuttle,” our new Orange Line will make everyday errands and local trips faster and easier for residents. This fixed route will offer quick trips between Raymond and South Bend, stopping at major amenities and shopping locations. Designed specifically for locals, the Orange Route prioritizes local mobility rather than regional connections.

Weekday:

Weekend:

Expanded Hours

We are introducing extended hours of service through the spring and summer seasons. Weekday service is expected to run from 5:00 AM – 7:00 PM, and weekend service is expected to run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. These hours may be adjusted in the fall based on seasonal traffic patterns and ridership data.

Continued Updates

Pacific Transit will share rider-facing information through a combination of website updates, social media, print materials, and media releases. Additional route details will be shared as they are finalized according to internal protocols.

For the most current information, riders should check Pacific Transit’s Rider Alerts at the top of our website, as well as the Route Schedule page, which will be updated the evening before launch. Updates will also be shared to Facebook, and print materials will be distributed pending the finalization of route schedules.

About the Fall Fixed-Route Changes

After testing new pilot routes over the summer and collecting extensive rider feedback in August, Pacific Transit updated their fare-free fixed-route transit services once again with new and improved routes and schedules.

Highly-demanded bus routes returned, and Dial-a-Ride services were fortified to support residents in areas that were underserved by fixed-route services. Increased bus frequency and strengthened regional connections mean less wait time and easier access to areas outside of Pacific County. The locally-beloved “Shopper Shuttle” service is now being served by our public Yellow Line from Raymond to South Bend with frequent mid-day stops.

Key Changes:

More frequent stops and less wait time

Return of Oysterville to Ocean Park route via Brown Line

Discontinuation of Tokeland route, to be supplemented by Dial-a-Ride for Aberdeen connection

Extra Dial-a-Ride drivers on Wednesday for larger groups

Return of South Bend – Bay Center – Naselle – Ilwaco route via Purple Line

Increased mid-day stops and frequency from Raymond to South Bend via Yellow Line, to support shopping activity

Wahkiakum will meet Pacific Transit at Naselle, allowing riders to connect to Longview and Cathlamet

Pacific Transit remains committed to serving residents and visitors of Pacific County. We thank you for your patience and feedback as we continue to optimize operational efficiency and improve our riders’ experiences.

For current route schedules, visit our Route Schedule page. Changes or disruptions to services will be posted on the red “Rider Alerts” banner on our website, as well as on our Facebook page.

FAQS

1. Why were the routes changed in the first place?

Previous to this summer’s changes, the routes at Pacific Transit had not been evaluated in several years. During a recent evaluation, significant operational inefficiencies and costs were identified. This indicated that it was time to take a comprehensive approach to rerouting. As with any changes, we knew it could impact riders and we knew area coverage might be less than ideal due to driver and equipment limitations. Testing the pilot routes allowed us to collect more data and better assess service needs and opportunities to improve operations.

Read our Letter from the General Manager for more comments about these changes.

2. What were the main changes?

The largest change to Pacific Transit was our recent rollout of fare-free transit. Free fixed-route services allow all riders to utilize our transit system regardless of income or distance.

We also transitioned to color-coded routes in order to make our public transit more accessible and easy to navigate, which is standard for most public transportation across the nation.

Route changes were prioritized based on rider volume, and we focused on the busiest stops and times. We introduced changes such as discontinuing routes with low ridership, introducing new routes in high-traffic areas, adding stops, and increasing bus frequency in our summer pilot routes. Testing these routes and collecting rider feedback allowed us to determine if the service area coverage and frequency would be adequate.

With the fall route launch, we will restore routes that were in high demand, add stops to several routes, increase midday and mid-week service, and make it easier to connect to other regional transit agencies. We have also ensured that Dial-a-Ride services will be able to meet transportation needs in areas with low fixed-route availability.

While we would like to provide all areas, stops, and routes, our operations are limited by the maximum coverage, lack of equipment and limited personnel. As we continue to grow and improve as an agency, we hope to expand services where it is operationally feasible.

3. When will things be “fixed”?

The next round of route adjustments will begin on September 15, 2025. Drivers will complete additional training and Pacific Transit will add staff. This will allow for increased transit frequency, including two buses for South Bend – Raymond and two buses on the Long Beach Peninsula, which will in turn shorten wait times.

4. I need to get somewhere today that you don’t have service to, what can I do?

If you need a ride not offered on the current routes, you can use the Dial-a-Ride Transit, or “DART” program. To schedule a ride, call one of our Dial-A-Ride numbers. For rides between South Bend – Raymond area to Olympia, call (360) 875-9418. For rides from Long Beach and Ilwaco to Longview, call (360) 642-9418. Please call for more information.

5. How were these changes determined? Who was included?

Changes to routes are carefully considered and implemented by Pacific Transit Executive Staff. The changes were determined by soliciting feedback from drivers and staff, as well as data from our stops, routes, ridership, and geographic areas. Read our Letter from the General Manager for more details about these decisions.

6. How will feedback be gathered from riders?

A feedback survey was shared with the community via social media and our website where riders were encouraged to share their feedback and thoughts.

Additional feedback sessions were held in August. Community members were welcome to attend and engage in constructive feedback.

7. How will changes be implemented?

In addition to using available data, the route changes in September will be based on public feedback and Pacific Transit will make every effort to accommodate as many changes as possible with our available equipment, staffing, and resources.

8. What requirements must transit agencies abide by when making route changes?

The Pacific Transit Authority Board is notified when routes are changed, as well as the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The planning and execution of route changes falls to the transit agency’s administration. The decisions that were made regarding the recent pilot routes were executed by the Interim General Manager and the administrative team of transit professionals.

9. Why were the routes changed from the previous names to the color system?

Nationally, colors are broadly used across transit systems to make them more understandable to young or new riders. While named routes are familiar to riders, they can be more challenging to learn and understand for new riders and staff, as well as visitors who are unfamiliar with the area.

10. Where can I go on Pacific Transit’s fixed routes?

Riders can travel to most towns in Pacific County on our fixed-route services. With our newly strengthened regional connections, riders can also now access Olympia to the north, and Longview to the south. If you need to access an area that is not on one of our fare-free fixed routes, please consider using our Dial-a-Ride Transit, or “DART” service. Find more information here.

11. What if I have comments or questions?

We are always listening to our riders’ comments and questions and may open up feedback periods again in the future as we continue to fine-tune our services. If you have questions or constructive feedback, you can reach our staff by email contact@pacifictransit.org or via phone. For our Raymond-South Bend office, call (360) 875-9418 and for the peninsula, call (360) 642-9418.

To our Riders,

Thank you for your interest in Pacific Transit System.

We learned a lot from the summer pilot project, and we listened to your feedback. We understand the past few months have been difficult for some of you and thank you for your patience as we bring Pacific Transit System up to date.

As you see from the new schedule, we are implementing the changes that you indicated were most important. From service to Oysterville to resuming the South Bend-Bay Center-Naselle-Ilwaco route, we have responded to your requests.

A few things to note:

Our Dial A Ride service, WHICH IS OPEN TO EVERYONE IN PACIFIC COUNTY, is more flexible and goes to more destinations, including Tokeland and Aberdeen;

We spent the summer hiring more drivers. This allows us to operate the system at full capacity.

New vehicles are being delivered and older vehicles are being replaced. This means more reliable service for you and lower costs for Pacific Transit.

We’re utilizing smaller, more efficient vehicles to save money and ensure economic success into the future.

We’ll have more news in the coming months as we continue to find ways to fine tune service to meet your needs. Your input is always welcome. Send comments to contact@pacifictransit.org or call 360-875-9418 or 360-642-9418.

As part of an ongoing commitment to our community, Pacific Transit is trialing several changes to our fare-free public transit routes, starting on June 16, 2025. The carefully thought-out changes are being implemented to improve rider experience and increase transit efficiency. Please note that these changes are part of a pilot program.

A major usability improvement is being made in the form of switching from numbered routes to color-coded routes. This new color-coded system will improve the readability and usability of route tables and rider guides, to make navigating the Pacific Transit System easier.

See new Pacific Transit Rider Guide here.

Pacific Transit has synchronized all routes in order to reduce wait times for transfers between routes. As part of this effort, we have also updated the bus stop times to be more convenient for our riders.

Route 52, known locally as the “Aberdeen Express,” previously ran from Ilwaco to Aberdeen. This route has been canceled due to low ridership, in favor of increasing service to higher volume areas and improving transit efficiency. For assistance in traveling to Aberdeen, riders are recommended to call the Pacific Transit office at (360) 875-9418 for direction or use the new Route Schedule, available on our newly improved website.

Our new pilot program has also increased service to the Long Beach Peninsula by introducing a second bus, additional stops, extended service hours, and additional stop times. Riders can now travel up and down the peninsula in either direction, with more convenient stop times. Sandridge Road, which was previously unserved, has been added to the route in order to increase rider access. Service hours have been extended just in time for summer and peak tourism season.

These changes build on Pacific Transit’s commitment to accessibility, including the recent decision to make most services fare-free, effective in March 2025.

Our trial period provides an opportunity for riders to test the new routes and share feedback before changes are finalized in early fall. Riders are encouraged to review the updated route information at www.PacificTransit.org or call (360) 875-9418 for additional assistance. Rider feedback is welcomed and encouraged during this important transition.

Pacific Transit System remains dedicated to providing reliable, accessible, and community-centered transportation throughout Pacific County.
